35th year of COMPLETE DOMINANCE - #Mohanlal.
Ask a young Malayalee budding actor, "Whose career would you like to emulate if you get a choice?" In my experience, a majority will give out "one name". Ask anyone from the Indian Film Industry, "Who is your favorite actor in Malayalam?" Again, I can mostly hear that "one name".
For me, his congenial presence onscreen and the experience he deliver through it is more like an ambrosial meal which I would grab as soon as it is laid on the table. During the 35 years of his journey, I had the good fortune to share my journey till date with it. The conspicuous presence of his work has influenced my journey through various circumstance. The prodigious talent to convince a me as well as many that he can be the man next door on one side while a cosmopolitan person on other side... a tough ruffian to a loving father... an extrovert student to a introvert teacher... a man in uniform to a tribal person... a naughty romantic to a bloodcurdling antagonist.
Box Office Success, Critical Acclaim are part of this journey in huge numbers but that never seem to have affected the person, who seems to have realized the reality far ahead of many. While he attained the many milestones and honors, we see a relaxed soul who seems to have seen this n number of times in front of an excited, celebrating millions. Once Shah Rukh Khan claimed "The biggest compliment you can ever give to a person is that despite of the huge number of achievements he earned, he is still humble n down to earth." Kamal Hassan has quoted "Some guys are gifted and they become Mohanlal." He had the opportunity to share screen with some big names and hear compliments from them at the same time. He made many directors rue for the missed opportunities with him even now.
Recently he was conferred an honorary Black Belt of Taekwondo by World Taekwondo Headquarters in Kukiwon by South Korean Government and yesterday his official facebook page has crossed the coveted 1 million mark making him the first Malayalee actor to attain that achievement. There are other tags like Universal Star, Superstar, Lieutnant Colonel, Bharath, Padmashree, Dr. etc etc... But I prefer or rather he prefers, Its that name that remained common during the 35 years of sheer awesomeness - "LALETTAN"
