The Ultimate father and son of Malayalam Film Industry. This is the tag given to this combination. Its only because of Kireedam. I don't need to explain more regarding that film and that particular chemistry. The specialty of this chemistry is opposite character sketch. Mostly you can see Thilakan donning the role of a rough/strict and outspoken character and Mohanlal playing the role of a quiet and obedient son/friend.
Before Kireedom, two films come in my mind where the glimpses of this chemistry was exhibited. First film is 'Panchagni' where Thilakan portrays the role of an exrebel, Raman and Mohanlal plays the role of a quiet and well-behaved journalist, Rasheed. There are scenes where Rasheed have conversation with his mentor, Ramettan. One particular scene which remains in my memory is where Ramettan who is having a drink on his bed and Rasheed listening to his lines. Not much body language and lines for Mohanlal but their chemistry was felt without it.
The other film is 'Namukku Paarkkan Muthirthoppukal' where the chemistry between the antagonist and protagonist was felt despite of having a few scenes. This chemistry wasn't exploited much after 'Kireedam' other than Chenkol, Pavithram and Spadikom. 'Red Chillies' is a film which didn't have any combination scene. But there is a split screen shot where Mohanlal listens to Thilakan's speech from his car. I am not sure whether I was the only one but I felt the chemistry even in that scene. Again its a big loss for Mohanlal that he will not be able to work his best onscreen father anymore.
