How does 'Mohanlal' sound when spelt right next in line after Marlon Brando, Chaplin, De Nero, Al Pacino, Meryl Streep and Dustin Hoffman in a hall of fame? Of course the rhythm goes for a toss, but there is a wonderful ring to it that thumps in excitement in every Keralite's ear!
In a recent IMDB user review, Mohanlal is ranked 10 out of a list of 50 actors. Titled “The List of 50 Artists who give Mind-blowing Performance On-screen,” The user review focused on the actors' charisma, unique personal characteristics, versatility and body of work among other things.
Mohanlal has been bestowed with as many awards as there are and as many adjectives that are possible to construct by the government, media and his fans. He is much acclaimed and is a cultural icon for the Malayali. His identity, finely merged with the national mainstream cinema, made people take notice of Malayalam cinema, and identify with it. His works include a commendable array of Tamil and Hindi films as well. A Padma Shri recipient, he was also the first actor to be given the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army of India.
Born on 21 May, 1960 to Viswanathan Nair and Santhakumari, Mohanlal hails from the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala.
