Director Joshiy about Mohanlal

In all Fairness, I should admit, that I marvel this man. Get him through with a scene in action, wry humor, crass comedy, intimating look, romance, or extreme embarrassment. He does them all, with the same ease and dedication. It takes a lot to be a 'Mohanlal'.

During the recent 'Run Baby Run' shoot, where we had to do many late night shoots, around 2 AM, we had to finish off with a particular shot. Lal had finished with his earlier day's shooting schedule, then traveled to visit his mother, and was dead tired back to the sets. I noticed his swollen eyes, decided not to bother him that day, and thought of pulling of remaining shots, and postpone Lal's part to the next day. I discussed it with Sachi and RD.

We came into the outdoor set put up, and to our surprise saw Lal there cracking jokes as usual with the crew, and getting ready for the shot. I looked into his eyes. The sparkle in his eyes hid his fatigue. 'Everything OK Sir?' He asked. All I could do, was smile and nod my head.

Memories flooded back in. Years rolled on. But the Lalu I first met in 1987, was standing before me, unchanged, unadulterated, and truly being the complete 'Director's' actor. - Joshiy (Director)
