I believe the greatness of Mohanlal lies in understanding some intricate quality that defines a particular character. It may be calm, laziness or arrogance.
One of my favorite scene in 'Kireedam' happens to be during the song "Kanneer poovinte" when he watches Parvathy from the back of a tree, his eyes raising and drooping at pin-point precision. Wow brilliant. That's the word.
One of the most powerful scenes in 'Devasuram' is when Mohanlal starts playing the mridangam and Nedumudi Venu starts to dance to it and loses his 'mundu'. The lazy elegance with which he picks up the instrument and starts playing it is in my view an action which truly defines the grace of 'Neelakandan'.
In 'Amrutham Gamaya' a simple scene in which he drinks coconut water and then throws away the shell. Simply grace personified.
Just goes onto reinstate the age-old theory that,
"Great actors often do the simple things more gracefully."
