Jayalalitha praised Mohanlal for his performance in Iruvar

Iruvar is undoubtedly among one of the top 10 glorious movies of Mohanlal’s three decade long illustrious career.
Iruvar is a masterpiece sculpted by legendary director Mani Ratnam with brilliant cinematography by Santhosh Sivan, perfect music by AR Rahman and the towering performances from the lead cast.

The movie was heavily inspired from the lives of Arya Dravida political leaders MG Ramachandran (MGR) Karunanidhi and J Jayalalitha.
Mohanlal did the role of Anandhan in the movie, a character inspired from the life of MGR. Aishwarya Rai after being crowned the Miss World made her debut in tinsel town through Iruvar.

She played the role of a popular actress in the movie, that resembled Jayalalitha’s life. Prakash Raj won a well deserved a National Award for his performance as Tamil Selvan in the movie.
After the release of the movie, Jayalalitha called Mohanlal and appreciated his performance. That acknowledgment came as a great solace for Mohanlal, who was apparently disappointed with the box office performance of the movie.

Though the movie could not become a commercial success, it was screened at many international film festivals and even today it is rated as one of the finest works in Indian cinema.
Till date, Anandhan remains one of the best acts of Mohanlal on screen. Director Mani Ratnam himself has said that, during the shoot of Iruvar he forgot to call the cuts in between shots as he was blown away by the actor’s acting.
